Description
White Vulcanised Fibre Dots, Pack of 20 (10 x face dots & 10 x side dots )
“Clay dot”. A term synonymous with the 1959-64 pre CBS golden era of Fender.
So called due to the way the dots would age to a clay-like tan shade. They were not made from clay at all, or linoleum, gypsum filler, Catelin, Garolite or any of the other materials that have gained mythical traction over the years. They were actually punched from sheets of vulcanised fibreboard, the same material that was already used in abundance at the Fender factory for pickup flatwork and amplifier circuit boards.
White fibreboard is no longer manufactured but we have sourced a supply of NOS material from which we have had Fender spec dots punched. There is a limited supply and when its gone, it really is gone.
Measuring 1/4″ and 3/32″ for face and side dots and 5/64″ thickness, These dots can be used on new builds, as replacements for Custom shop Corian, or for vintage restoration purposes. White in colour, they will age over time to the classic clay shade as they take on colour from the oils in in the rosewood, sweat, nicotine etc.
